Cocoa Horizons Partnership
Cocoa Horizons is an impact driven program focused on cocoa farmer prosperity and helping build self-sustaining farming communities that protect nature and children. The Cocoa Horizons Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization supervised by the Swiss Federal Foundation Supervisory Authority. It was established in 2015 by Barry Callebaut.
Together with their partners, they take a long-term view, working with farmers to improve cocoa production practices while at the same time addressing critical social challenges in communities where farmers and their families live.
Their vision of thriving cocoa communities is one in which all children can attend school and are protected from harmful work. They promote the importance of schooling in our farmer training, and work with communities to raise awareness about child labor, better understand its causes, and develop constructive solutions.
Women’s inclusion in training, farmer group administrative and management activities, and other business development opportunities are key priorities of theirs.
Commitment to Sustainability
The Cocoa Horizons Foundation is committed to a deforestation-free, carbon positive cocoa supply chain.
Zero deforesation and carbon positive cocoa farming is strongly linked with lifting farmers out of poverty. Farmers earning a decent livelihood through improved cocoa production are far less likely to exploit new lands through deforestation.
